How to Study with Z-FLASH

Once you have created a stack of flash cards, you can review the stack in several different ways to fully memorize all of the information. To begin studying a stack of flash cards, touch VIEWS and select Title. Then touch the stack you want to study, once to highlight it, and a second time to open it.

Scanning the cards in Index Mode

When you open a stack of cards, you will first see them listed in index mode. Take a moment here to familiarize yourself with all the cards. At this point you may wish to tag certain cards.

Tagging Cards

You may have cards in a stack that you don’t wish to review because they are too easy or because you simply want to focus on fewer cards. In this case, you can use the tagging function to hide cards you don’t want to review. You can tag a card in either Index or Drill mode, simply by checking the "Tagged" box.

Tag/Untag All Cards — Touch EDIT and select Tag All or Untag All to select all the cards in the currently active stack.

Delete All Tagged Entries — Choose this function from the EDIT menu to delete all the tagged cards in the active stack at one time.

Viewing Tagged/Untagged Cards

While you are in either Index or Drill mode, you can use the SHOW feature to view only tagged, untagged or all the cards in the stack. Simply touch the SHOW icon at the top of the screen and select the type of cards you wish to view.

Suggestion: Although you can use SHOW to view either tagged or untagged cards, it is recommended that you tag the cards that you do wish to review. This will make it easier for you when using the testing function, and also when you want to duplicate and merge stacks.

"Flipping" through your flash cards

To begin reviewing the cards in your stack, touch VIEWS and select Drill. Use the Show Next function to specify the card information that is displayed, then use the Navigation function to move through the stack of cards.

If you chose to see only the information on Side A or Side B of a card, a ??? box will appear where the information is hidden. To see the hidden information, touch the box.

Shuffling & Sorting Your Cards

Once you have reviewed your cards a few times, you may wish to change the order in which they are displayed. To change the card order:

1. Touch VIEWS and select Index.

2. Touch SORT. You can choose four sort orders:

A Side -- Displayed alphabetically by Side A

B Side -- Displayed alphabetically by Side B

Shuffle -- Displayed in random order

None -- Displayed in the order they were entered

Taking a Test

Once you have reviewed the cards a few times, you can test yourself to see how well you have memorized the information. Z-FLASH can take your card data and create true-false or multiple-choice tests. To take a test:

1. Touch the TEST icon at the top of the screen and select either Multiple Choice or True/False. The Test Setup box will appear. (After you have been tested on a stack at least once, you can also select Top Scores to review your previous test scores on this stack.)

NOTE: If you have chosen to view only tagged or untagged cards from the SHOW menu, these are the only cards that you will be tested on. If you wish to be tested on all the cards in your stack, touch SHOW and select All before you take a test.

2. Fill out the Test Setup box criteria:

First Question — Using the current sort order, the card number that the first question will be based on.

No. of Questions — The number of questions on the test. (You can see the total number of cards to the right of this box.)

Display Order — The subject of each question can be based on the current sort order of the cards, or the reverse order. To see the questions in random order, touch Cancel. Then touch Sort and select Shuffle before setting up the test again.

Display Correct Answers — Check this box to see the correct answer displayed immediately after you miss a question.

Tag incorrectly answered questions — Check this box to automatically tag card information you didn’t know on the test.

Clear All Tags First — If you checked the box above, you can check this box also to untag all cards before taking the test.

Question Source — Choose whether the questions will be based on Side A or B of the cards.

3. After you have set up the test, touch Start Test. To leave this box without taking the test, touch Cancel.

4. Answer each question by selecting the appropriate radio button. Then touch Next.

5. When you have completed the test, your score summary will appear on the screen.
