SynchroLynx is a product which is added onto Microsoft Word to allow communicating documents between Word on the PC and the Zaurus. Imagine exporting documents to the Zaurus before going on a trip, and editing them on the Zaurus while on the road. Wouldn’t it be great if you could then have your Word document updated with the changes you made to the Zaurus? Even better, wouldn’t it be great if the changes to the Zaurus could be marked as revisions to the Word document? Imagine being able to edit documents in either Zaurus and Word, then update the changes with a click of the button. No remembering which documents were changed. Imagine importing a Zaurus document to Word and being able to edit whichever is more convenient. Then, with the click of a button, being able to keep Word and Zaurus in synch. Now you can, with SynchroLynx for Word! SynchroLynx gives you the power to keep your Zaurus documents and Word documents in synch.
Once you have installed SynchroLynx , a Zaurus menu item will appear in Word. To start SynchroLynx, simply select the Zaurus menu. When you first choose the Synchronize Wizard, Export, Export Wizard or Import, SynchroLynx will prompt you to fill in some Settings. While you may edit these settings at a later time desired, you will be prompted only one time. If you select Export, Export Wizard or Import Wizard as the first selection, you will be asked if you want to enable synchronization for this Zaurus.
If you are importing or exporting documents which you will synchronize, select yes. This enables SynchroLynx to make a link between the exported or imported documents for synchronization. This message will only be displayed once. If you click No to this enable message, you can enable synchronization simply by selecting Zaurus from the Word menu, then selecting Synchronize Wizard.
Because of the difference in functionality between MS Word and Zaurus documents, certain limitations exist.
Synchronization of documents is a whole new idea in document maintenance. SynchroLynx will keep track of changes to linked documents on the Zaurus and in Word. When you synchronize, SynchroLynx will tell you what changed and will update the files. For example, suppose there are four documents:
all of which are on the Zaurus and Word. You modify the "Letter to Frank" on Zaurus and "Project Z Proposal" in Word. You delete "Weekly Meeting Agenda" from Zaurus. When you synchronize, SynchroLynx keeps track of the changes and allows you to select the action to take:
In order for SynchroLynx to recognize a document in Zaurus and document in Word to be the same, a link must be made between them. Once linked, SynchroLynx will keep track of changes to each and allow modification to be made to one source based on changes made to the other. Documents can become linked in several ways:
The Synchronize Wizard provides a grid for selecting the documents to synchronize.
Synchronization occurs in two ways: First (Full) Synchronization When you first install SynchroLynx, no links are established between any documents. If links are established between documents, SynchroLynx performs a normal synchronization, not a Full Synchronization. If no links have been established between documents, and the Synchronize Wizard is chosen, SynchroLynx will receive the names of the Zaurus documents and list them in the Synchronize Wizard grid. These documents will be marked as new. The available actions will be Add to PC and Unlink. Select Unlink for documents which you do not want linked to a PC document and which you do not want to see in the grid anymore. Normal Synchronization When a synchronization is performed for linked documents, SynchroLynx lists all the linked documents in the Synchronize Wizard grid with the changes made to either source listed in the grid. From within the Action column of the grid, select what SynchroLynx should do in order to make update the documents.
Use the Export Wizard to export documents from the PC in Word format to the Zaurus. When the Export Wizard option is selected, you will be prompted to select the documents to Export.
You may only select documents from one folder on this screen, but you will be able to add documents from other folders later. Select the documents and click Open. The Export Wizard grid is displayed once the documents are selected. The Export Wizard grid is used to choose the documents to export.
Remove a document from the list by selecting it then clicking Remove. Change the document in the list by selecting it and clicking the button which appears. Add a document by clicking the Add button or by clicking the blank line at the bottom of the grid and clicking the button which appears. When the documents to be exported are selected, click Export. Use the Export option to export the current open document. If the document has not been saved, you will be prompted to save it. Then SynchroLynx will export the document. Exporting Directly from the Windows Desktop or Windows Explorer SynchroLynx offers not only connectivity embedded in Word, but also you can Export documents directly from the Windows Desktop or Windows Explorer. Simply right click on the file on the Desktop or in Explorer and Select Export to Zaurus.
To export the current open / saved document:
To export one or more documents using the Export Wizard:
To export a Word document from the Windows Desktop or Windows Explorer
Use the Import Wizard to Import documents onto the PC in Word format. When the option is taken, SynchroLynx will retrieve the document names if set to do so. The document names available on the Zaurus will be displayed so that you may select the documents to import.
Merge documents You may also merge two or more documents into one PC document. Select the documents. To select more than one document, hold the SHIFT key while clicking on the documents to be selected. Release the SHIFT key when all the desired documents are selected. Place the cursor over one of the selected documents and click the right mouse button. Select Merge. The documents will be merged in the order they appear on the screen. If you want to change the order, first use the arrow buttons to change the order and then merge them. Change PC document name or destination folder. Click on a PC document name in the grid, then click the button with the three dots which appears.
The Settings option from the Zaurus menu allows you to change settings about the way SynchroLynx operates. There are two Tabs on the setting screen, Word and Communication.
Default document folder Select the default folder for storing documents on the PC. Click the Browse button to select from the available folders. Page Number When a document is exported to the Zaurus, you can select the way page numbers are sent to with the document. Since MS Word and Zaurus will calculate the number of pages differently, you identify the way SynchroLynx should handle page numbers. Revision Marks When a document is changed on the Zaurus, then synchronized with a Word document, how would you like SynchroLynx to modify the Word document? Select the way that SynchroLynx should update the Word document. Automatically refresh Zaurus document Select whether or not SynchroLynx should automatically get Zaurus document information when you begin an Import. Default action for delete Select the default action when a document is deleted from a source. Specify if a document is deleted on one, should the link be removed, leaving the document on the other source, or should the document be deleted. The Communication Settings screen is used to select important information about the use of SynchroLynx.
The settings selected here will be applied for all appropriate places in SynchroLynx.
