Import

Import

The Import function copies data from the Zaurus into the PIM software. For the applications you select, the Import feature copies the data from the Zaurus into the PIM software. Unlike Synchronizing, Importing does not keep track of changes to individual entries and attempt to merge changes.

The Import option from the Zaurus menu will guide you through importing Zaurus data into the PIM software using Wizard screens. The wizards that you will see when Importing are:

  • Application Selection
  • Filter Data
  • Field Mapping
  • Finish

How to Import

For more information on how to Import for your PIM, see the on-line help.

  1. Put the Zaurus in PC Link mode.
  2. Open the PIM Software.
  3. Select Zaurus, Import from the PIM menu.
  4. Select the Applications to Import, then click Next.
  5. Select whether to append the data to the existing data or overwrite the existing data.
If you choose to overwrite the data, all data in the PIM data file will be deleted and replaced with the data you are importing.
  6. Select whether or not to filter data, then click Next.
  7. If desired, change any field mapping, then click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
Export

What is Export?

The Export function copies data from the PIM software into the Zaurus. For the applications you select, the Export feature copies the data from the Zaurus into the PIM software. Unlike Synchronizing, exporting does not keep track of changes to individual entries and attempt to merge changes.

The Export option from the Zaurus menu will guide you through exporting Zaurus data into the PIM software using Wizard screens. The Wizards that you will see when Importing are:

  • Application Selection
  • Filter Data
  • Field Mapping
  • Finish

How to Export

For more information on how to Export for your PIM, see the on-line help.

  1. Put the Zaurus in PC Link mode.
  2. Open the PIM Software.
  3. Select Zaurus, Export from the PIM menu.
  4. Select the Applications to Export, then click Next.
  5. Select whether to append the data to the existing data or overwrite the existing data.
If you choose to overwrite the data, all data for the Zaurus applications being Exported will be deleted and replaced with the data you are exporting.
  6. Select whether or not to filter data, then click Next.
  7. If desired, change any field mapping, then click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
Synchronization

Synchronization

Application Selection for Synchronization

Select Applications to synchronize

After selecting to Synchronize, select the Zaurus applications you would like to Synchronize. There are four applications which are common to the Zaurus and most PIMs which you can synchronize:

  • Appointments
  • To Do’s (Tasks)
  • Contacts
  • Birthday / Anniversary

Some PIMs do not support Birthday / Anniversary entries. If the PIM does not support Birthday / Anniversary events, this option will be missing from the screen.

If you want to synch without making any changes to settings since the last synchronization, you can just click Finish or use the Synchronize NOW option.

Next to each application is a button which allows you to identify information which is specific to each application. This is particularly important for Contacts, since the Zaurus has multiple contact files and most PIMs have only one.

Click the Application button to make changes about the specific applications.

For more information, see the PIM specific information later in this manual or the on-line help.

Delete confirmation

Select whether or not to display the delete confirmation message. If an entry is deleted on either the PIM software or Zaurus, when synchronization occurs, before deleting the corresponding record on the other source, a message can be displayed. You can then decide whether or not to delete the entry on the other source. If you want deletion to occur without further prompting, uncheck the selection box.

Conflicts

Click the Conflict button to make choices about how SynchroLynx should handle conflicts.

Set Data Conflict Defaults

A conflict occurs when the same data entry is changed on both the Zaurus and the PIM between synchronization. For example, you delete a contact on the Zaurus and a colleague edits the same contact in the PIM between synchronizing. For conflicts, select whether you would like to resolve conflicts manually or automatically at the time of synchronization.

Resolve conflicts manually

If you choose to resolve conflicts manually, a screen will appear at the end of synchronization. For each conflict, you will be able to choose which change to use. In the above example, you would choose whether to delete the contact from the PIM or update the contact on the Zaurus.

Resolve conflicts automatically

If you choose to have conflicts resolved automatically, no screen will prompt you for a decision. SynchroLynx will perform the correct action according to your specifications in the Default Action for Conflicting Records.

Default Action for Conflicting Records

You may select the default action for each of the different types of conflicts which can occur. If you choose to Resolve Conflicts Automatically, SynchroLynx will perform the default actions. If you choose to Resolve Conflicts Manually, SynchroLynx will default to these actions, but will allow you to change the action for each conflict.

Modified both in the PIM and Zaurus

If a record is modified in both the PIM and Zaurus, would you like SynchroLynx to:

Copy both

Make two records out of the one, preserving both changes.

Replace PIM record

Replace the PIM record and lose changes in favor of Zaurus changes. This is used for people who tend to use the Zaurus more frequently than the PIM.

Replace Zaurus record

Replace the Zaurus record and lose changes in favor of the PIM changes. This is used for people who tend to use the PIM more frequently than Zaurus.

Skip conflict

Perform no action on this conflict, and do not synchronize the record. If you select to skip a conflict, it will continue to be considered a conflict until you choose an action.

Modified in PIM and deleted in Zaurus

Add to Zaurus

Add the record from the PIM into the Zaurus despite its being deleted from Zaurus.

Delete PIM Record

Delete the PIM record as it was deleted from Zaurus.

Skip conflict

Perform no action on this conflict, and do not synchronize the record. If you select to skip a conflict, it will continue to be considered a conflict until you choose an action.

Deleted in PIM modified in Zaurus

Add to PIM

Add the record from Zaurus into the PIM despite its being deleted from the PIM.

Delete Zaurus Record

Delete Zaurus record as it was deleted from the PIM.

Skip conflict

Perform no action on this conflict, and do not synchronize the record. If you select to skip a conflict, it will continue to be considered a conflict until you choose an action.

If you use the Skip Conflict default with the Resolve conflicts automatically option, when a conflict occurs, it will never be resolved. Conflicts will always be skipped, causing it to appear that SynchroLynx is not synchronizing all the data.
