Getting Started

What is SynchroLynx?

SynchroLynx is an application which embeds itself into other applications on your PC to allow communication of information between the Zaurus and the PC applications. SynchroLynx facilitates communication from Appointments, To Dos, Contacts and, in some cases Birthday/ Anniversary entries with PIM software as well as documents with MS Word and spreadsheets with MS Excel. There are three kinds of communication which can be done with SynchroLynx:

Synchronize

Make changes to the Zaurus and your PC applications as much as you want. Connect your Zaurus to the PC and use the SynchroLynx Synchronize function. SynchroLynx keeps track of changes and updates Zaurus and PC as needed.

Import

Import data, in its entirety, from Zaurus into the PC Application.

Export

Export data, in its entirety, from the PC Application to the Zaurus.

In addition to the communication options described above, SynchroLynx has some other important features:

Backup

Use the backup feature to make a copy of all Zaurus data on the PC. All Zaurus data is compressed into a single file and stored on the PC. In the event of data being lost on the Zaurus, the backup copy can be used to restore the data to the Zaurus from the PC.

Restore

If data is lost and backup copies were made, use the restore function to put the data back on the Zaurus.

Connecting the Zaurus to the PC

All communication between the Zaurus and PC is done with the Zaurus in PC Link mode. To put the Zaurus in PC link mode, first plug the linking device (i.e. cable or IR unit) into a free com port of the PC, then:

Select TOOLS from the Zaurus Application Palette.
Select PC LINK.

Select CABLE, if a cable device is used or WIRELESS, if an infrared device is used.

Using SynchroLynx Help

SynchroLynx comes equipped with several different ways to get help while you work.

Tour - From the Help Menu, select SynchroLynx Help Topics. In the Getting Started chapter, open the Tour chapter for an audio-visual tour of using SynchroLynx.

Help Menu - From the Help Menu, select SynchroLynx Help Topics. The Table of Contents and Index will be displayed. You can browse through the Table of Contents, or find information in the Index.

Context Sensitive screen help - Many of the screens within SynchroLynx have Help buttons. Just click the button to see help about the current screen. Get context sensitive help for any screen in SynchroLynx, whether or not there is a help button, by pressing F1.
