RuppLynx Applications

Once you have transferred data to your PC, you can edit it in RuppLynx, with all the advantages of a full-size keyboard and screen. You also gain functions not found on certain portable models. For instance, you can add boldface, underlines and italics to text...spellcheck data...and drop and drag appointments to your calendar.

Note: certain application files cannot be edited in RuppLynx. These include files from Notes, Scrapbook, Spreadsheet and Money Manager applications that come with certain Zaurus and OZ-9000 series models. You can backup these files on your PC using RuppLynx.

Launching an Application

To edit a file, click the appropriate button on the main toolbar. If the application is not on the toolbar, click your right mouse button in the desktop area to bring up The Task Manager window. (See page 50 for more details).

View Modes — Index and Record

When you open an application, you will see either a list of all the files in the application (Index Mode), or details of the first file in the application (Edit Mode). To choose a viewing mode, click on the File menu, select Preferences and choose Editor Options.

Edit Mode is ideal if you are primarily keying in data for an application. If you are in Record Mode and you want to switch see an index, click on the Index toolbar button at the upper left of the screen.

Index Mode is preferable for scanning through all your records. It is
also more similar to your hand-held unit’s default display. If you are in
Index Mode,
to view or edit a specific record, highlight it in the index
and select Edit.

For more information about Index Mode, see page 44.

Creating/Editing Records

When you open an application, the data you transferred from your hand-held unit should appear on the screen. A Status Bar at the bottom of the screen displays important information, such as the name of the file you are editing, whether it is an IC Card or Main memory file and the record number. When the Tag icon is highlighted, that record is tagged. When the Lock icon is highlighted, that record is password protected. For the YO-Series Schedule, the Bell icon indicates whether the alarm is set or not.

If you have not transferred any data, you will see a blank screen with the application toolbar at the top. If you transferred data and it does not appear:

• Check the Status Bar to see if you correctly selected your hand-held unit’s Main memory or IC Card.

• If the application has more than one file (i.e. Contacts 1,2 or 3) use the buttons on the Application Toolbar to make sure you are in the correct file.

• If you have installed support for more than one type of Hand-held unit, click Window and select Active Toolbar
to check that the right hand-held unit is active.

• If you have installed more than one data set, click File, select Active Data Set and check to see that the right data set is active.

The toolbar at the top of the screen lets you create and edit data much the same way as you do on your hand-held unit. You can also use the Windows menus or keyboard keys to access most editing functions.

1. From the Spelling menu, select Dictionary Maintenance

2. Create a new dictionary with New

3. Click the From dictionary...’ button and select your old dictionary.

All words from the old dictionary will be copied into the new file. Please note that this can take some time, depending on the speed of your computer. Copying a dictionary of 100,000 words could take up to one hour. You can abort the process at any time with the Esc key.

Pictures

Edit a picture field: Double click the field to select it. You can now delete or paste in a picture.

Expand a picture: Click on the Expand Picture button. Click on this button again to collapse the picture.

Picture Grab

Picture Grab allows you to copy an image from any Windows program and place it in a picture field or a Scrap Book file.

1. Find the image you want to copy.

2. Open the RuppLynx application where you want to place the image (i.e. Scrap Book). Close all Windows except the window with the graphic and the RuppLynx window containing the picture field where the graphic will be placed.

3. Double click in the picture field of the RuppLynx application to activate the Picture Grab function, or click on
the Pict Grab button on the toolbar
if available.

3. The Capture Options Dialog window appears.

4. Select Hide this program if the graphic is in another program running behind RuppLynx. Select Leave this program alone if the graphic is in the RuppLynx program itself.

5. Select Paste to top left and crop edges to place the picture in the upper left of the picture field. Any data that does not fit in the frame will be deleted. Select Expand/Shrink picture to fit to resize the picture so that all of it fits in the field. Select Copy to clipboard, do not paste if you want to paste the picture
in another picture field that is not

yet opened.

6. After selecting OK, the mouse pointer will change to a cross hair and the window with the graphic will come to the front. Drag a rectangle around the graphic by holding down your left mouse button and then dragging. When you release the mouse button, the picture will be captured and pasted into the Picture Field.
