Editor Applications

Once you have transferred a file to your PC, you can edit it in RuppLynx, with all the advantages of a full-size keyboard and screen. (Exceptions: Notes and Scrapbook files from your Zaurus or OZ-9000 series organizer.)

How to Select an Editor Application

To edit a file, launch its matching application from the Main Toolbar. (Example: to edit a Contacts file, launch Contacts.) If the application is not on the toolbar, click your right mouse button in the desktop area to bring up The Task Manager window. See Chapter 9 for more details.

Using a RuppLynx Application

Once you launch an application, you will find it works almost the same way on your PC as it does on your K-PDA or Organizer, with several advantages:

1. The toolbar at the top of the screen will display commonly used functions of that editor for faster access. To see text descriptions on each toolbar button, click on the File menu, select Preferences and choose Toolbar Setup.

2. If an application has more than one file (i.e. Contacts 1,2 or 3) there will be additional buttons on the Application Toolbar to access these files.

3. There is also a button on the toolbar so that you can switch back and forth between files stored in the Main memory of your unit and files stored on an IC card.

4. Editor applications contain a second toolbar with even more functions. To see what each of these buttons do, activate "Bubble Help" and point to the button with your mouse. (To activate "Bubble Help," click on the File menu, select Preferences and choose Toolbar Setup.)

5. A status bar at the bottom of the screen displays important information, such as the name of the file you are editing, whether it is an IC Card or Main memory file and the record number. When the Tag icon is highlighted, that record is tagged. When the Lock icon is highlighted, that record is password protected.

Creating/Editing Data

If you have not transferred a file from your unit, the Editor Application will open with a blank form for you to enter data. If you have transferred a file, the first record in the file should appear when you launch its matching application. If the data does not appear:

· Check the Application Toolbar to check that you have correctly selected to see data from your Organizer's Main memory or IC Card.

· If the application has more than one file (i.e. Contacts 1,2 or 3) use the buttons on the Application Toolbar to make sure you are in the correct file.

· If you have installed support for more than one type of Organizer, click Window and select Active Toolbar to check that the right K-PDA or Organizer is active.

· If you have installed more than one data set, click File, select Preferences and choose Data Sets to see that the right data set is active.

You can use the toolbars, Windows menus or keyboard keys to access most editing functions:

Create a new entry: Click the Blank Page icon on the secondary toolbar; press the Insert key; or click on the Record menu.

Picture Grab

Picture Grab allows you to copy graphics from any Windows screen and place them in a picture field or a Scrap Book entry.

2. Before using Picture Grab, you must first expand the picture (see above).

3. Double click in the picture field to activate the Picture Grab function, or click on the Pict Grab button on the toolbar if available.

4. The Capture Options Dialog window appears.

5. Select Hide this program if the graphic is in another program running behind RuppLynx. Select Leave this program alone if the graphic is in the RuppLynx program itself.

6. Select Paste to top left and crop edges to place the picture in the upper left of the picture field. Any data that does not fit in the frame will be deleted. Select Expand/Shrink picture to fit to resize the picture so that all of it fits in the field. Select Copy to clipboard, do not paste if you want to paste the picture in another picture field that is not yet opened.
