Setting Up RuppLynx

You will want to configure the program to meet your specific needs. You do this with the "Preferences" function.

To access this area, click on the File menu and select Preferences.

The following areas can be configured in Preferences:

General Options

Use this window to specify how the time and date are displayed, the computer port you are using to link up to your K-PDA or Organizer, and whether or not you want the Application Windows that are open when you quit RuppLynx to be reopened the next time you run the program.

Data Sets

If you are supporting more than one of the same type of K-PDA or Organizer, or if you have so much data that you can't fit all of it on your unit at one time, you will need to create additional data sets. To create a new data set, click on New. In the Description box, type the name of the new data set. Then enter the drive and directory where you want to store the second data set. If you have not already created a directory for the new data set, click on Browse, then Make Dir to create the new directory.

Note: you must create a new directory for each data set.

ToolBar Setup

1. Use this window to specify whether the toolbar buttons appear as icons, text descriptions, or both.

2. Specify which application icons you want to appear on the toolbar and their order. Click on the Toolbar Icons menu to see the icons currently on the toolbar. The default toolbar contains only the most commonly used applications. You can place as many or as few icons on the toolbar as you like.

3. To delete an icon from the toolbar, click and highlight the icon, then select Delete.

4. To insert an icon, click and highlight the location in Toolbar Icons where you want the new icon to be inserted. Then click on the Available Icons menu, touch the icon you wish to insert and select Add.

5. Once you have the selected the icons you want on the toolbar, and the order that you want them in, you can add a space between certain icons to separate them into groups. To do this, click on the icon where you want the space to appear and select Space.

6. If you want a "Bubble Help" description of an icon to appear when you point at it with the mouse, mark the Enable Bubble Help box.

Time Manager

Use this window to define how the Time Manager checks for clashes is your schedule. There are two types of time clashes, Time and Daily. Time clashes occur when time based entries such as schedules and appointments overlap. Daily clashes occur when day entries such as To Do's, Holidays or Anniversaries clash on the same day. You can choose which applications the Time Manager will search by choosing Dependencies.

To define Dependencies:

1. Click on the Primary Applications menu and select the application you want to protect from clashes. Example: Select Zaurus Appointments if you want to check for time clashes when making entries in Zaurus Appointments.

2. Select Add File. A window appears showing the files matching the chosen application type. Select the required file and choose Proceed.

3. Fill in the dependencies list with all the files that may contain clashes with the Application you selected. To do this, click on any file name in the Dependencies menu. A window appears. Select the files which you wish to add to the dependencies list. Select List files of type to change the type of files shown in the window.

Tip: start by adding the files of the Primary Application to the dependencies list. That way, when you make entries in that file, it will check for clashes with its own entries first.

4. Repeat Step 3 until you have added all the dependencies required. To delete a dependency, select it and click Delete.

Day Information

Use this section to tell RuppLynx 3.1 how you allocate your time.

1. Use Day Start and Day End to define the start and end of your working day. Then mark the Working Day Boundaries box if you want the Time Manager to warn you when you make an entry outside of your working day.

2. When you schedule an appointment without specifying an end time, RuppLynx will automatically insert an end time based on the minutes entered in the Default Duration box.

3. Use the Time Slots box to indicate how you like to schedule appointments. Example: if you generally make appointments on the half hour, set 30 min. When you use the Find Time function or drag appointments on the Weekly Graph, RuppLynx will use this value as the minimum amount that an appointment can move. (See Chapter 10)

4. Mark Include Weekends to make bookings on a weekend without warning.

5. Mark Enable Time Manager to check for clashing appointments, and appointments made outside of your work day or on weekends.

6. Mark Display Time Event Clashes Only to ignore two or more appointments made on the same day at different times.

7. Mark Move Event to display a confirmation dialog when you have moved an event on the Weekly Graph.

Conversion Modules

Use this option to add update modules for new software released after this version of RuppLynx was created. To delete an outdated module, select and highlight the module, then select Delete.

Function Keys

You can map the "F" keys to launch the RuppLynx applications or Windows programs you use most often with RuppLynx. The F1 key is reserved for "Help."

1. Highlight the "F" key you wish to map and select Define.

2. To map the "F" key to a RuppLynx application (i.e. "Contacts"), select Launch Application, then select the application from the menu.

Example: To launch the Appointments application editor every time you press F2:

From the Function Keys menu, click on "F2" and select Define. Then select Launch Application and highlight "Appointments." Click OK to map the F-key and exit the Preferences function. Now press F2 and the Appointments application editor will appear on the screen.

3. To map the "F" key to another Windows program, select Run Windows Program, then Browse and use the dialog box to select the appropriate ".exe" file.

Example: To launch WordPerfect every time you press F3:

From the Function Keys menu, click on "F3." Then select Run Windows Program and click on Browse. Choose the drive and folder where your WordPerfect program is stored. Highlight the "WP.EXE" file and click OK. From the main Function Keys window, click OK to map the F-key and exit the Preferences function. Now press F3 and WordPerfect will launch on your PC.

4. To unmap an "F" key, select and highlight the key from the Function Keys window and select Clear.

Organizer Model

If you are using RuppLynx with more than one model of OZ or YO/ZQ series Organizer, use this window to switch back and forth to the model you are currently supporting.

Note: If you want to keep the data on each Organizer separate, make sure to use the Data Sets option to create separate data sets for each Organizer.
